Phil Brickell was elected as the MP for Bolton West in 2024. The constituency covers Blackrod, Horwich, Westhoughton and the western outskirts of Bolton including, Chew Moor, Heaton and Lostock, Hulton and Smithills.
Born in Bolton, Phil received a partially funded education at Bolton School. He attained a law degree from Durham University and spent a year of his course in Hannover. This has led to him having a special interest in European affairs particularly those related to Germany. He is the Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Germany. Phil is also a member of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.
As an outdoor enthusiast, Phil likes to go on walks (he climbed Kilimanjaro in 2023 for Bolton Hospice) and enjoys white water kayaking to relieve stress. He is keen to ensure that the right to roam is strengthened and that our waterways are cleaned up.
Phil's parents worked in the NHS and his first job was working in Bolton Hospital. The Labour Party founded the NHS, and, as a Labour MP, Phil is committed to ensuring the NHS is properly funded and fit for the 21st Century.
Phil has more than a decade of experience working in the financial services industry. Prior to becoming an MP, he worked for Barclays and Natwest where he managed teams tackling bribery, corruption and money laundering.
